How the Doctor determines if you have Crohn's Diseases or not

Before your Doctor just ups and tells you that you have Crohn's disease he or she will run several test to rule out other conditions. Such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which is something that I am all to familiar with . He or she will also want to rule out that you do not have colon cancer or even diverticulitis(when one or more of your diverticula in your digestive tract becomes inflamed ). To rule out these other conditions test must be ran. The test that your Doctor will require you to take are a blood test, fecal occult blood test , Colonoscopy, Double ballon  endoscopy, MRI(Magnetic reasonace imaging ), CT scan (Computerized tomography), Capsule endoscopy, small bowel imaging and last but not least a Barium enma .

Your doctor may suggest blood tests to check for anemia a condition in which there aren't enough red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your tissues or to check for signs of infection.
You may need to provide a stool sample so that your doctor can test for blood in your stool.

A Colonoscopy is a test that allows your doctor to view your entire colon using a thin, flexible, lighted tube with an attached camera. During the procedure, your doctor can also take small samples of tissue (biopsy) for laboratory analysis, which may help confirm a diagnosis.

Flexible sigmoidoscopy is a  procedure where , your doctor uses a slender, flexible, lighted tube to examine the sigmoid, the last section of your colon.

The CT scan and the MRI are both used as another way to get a bigger picture of organs and tissues.

Capsule endoscopy is another test that the Doctor will give you,  If you have signs and symptoms that suggest Crohn's disease but other diagnostic tests are negative. In order for you to take this test you swallow a capsule that has a camera in it. The camera takes pictures, which are sent to a computer that you wear on your belt. The images are then downloaded, displayed on a monitor and checked for signs of Crohn's disease. Once it's made the trip through your digestive system, the camera exits your body painlessly in your stool.

Double balloon endoscopy is when a longer scope is used to look further into the small bowel where standard endoscopes don't reach.

Small bowel imaging is the test  that looks at the part of the small bowel that can't be seen by colonoscopy. After you drink a solution containing barium, X-ray, CT or MRI images are taken of your small intestine. The test can help locate areas of narrowing or inflammation in the small bowel that are seen in Crohn's disease. The test can also help your doctor determine which type of inflammatory bowel disease you have.

Barium enema  This diagnostic test allows your doctor to evaluate your large intestine with an X-ray. Before the test, you receive an enema with a contrast solution  containing barium. The barium dye coats the lining of the bowel, creating a silhouette of your rectum, colon and a portion of your small intestine that's visible on an X-ray. This test is rarely done anymore because of the availability of colonoscopy and CT scanning.

I know that this sounds like a lot of test to take to figure out if you have Crohn's disease or not. In the long you will be thankful to find out if you really do have Crohn's or could you be actually suffering from colon cancer. Or something nonlife threatening should as IBS, but just as uncomfortable and life changing.  So if your doctor suggests these test , please take them its better to be safe than sorry.

Crohn’s Disease

For no known reason do you suffer from vomiting , diarrhea , stomach cramps and pain? If your like most people you may think its just the food that your eating , or that you may need a detox or colon cleanse. Or you may do like I have done so many times. Take two ginger pills and drink a room temperature Ginger Ale and call it a day. What your Grandma might call a sour stomach , may be Crohn's disease .

Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory(swollen) bowel disease that may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract(stomach & intestines as a unit). Crohn's disease is caused by interactions between environmental, immunological(relating to immunology) and bacterial factors in genetically susceptible individuals. This could result in a chronic inflammatory disorder, in which the body's immune system attacks the gastrointestinal tract possibly directed at microbial antigens.

Crohn’s most commonly affects the end of the small bowel (the ileum) and the beginning of the colon, but it may affect any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, from the mouth to the anus.

Crohn’s disease can affect any part of the GI tract. While symptoms vary from patient to patient and some may be more common than others, the tell-tale symptoms of Crohn’s disease include:

Rectal bleeding
Abdominal cramps and pain
Constipation (can lead to bowel obstruction)Urgent need to move bowels
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Weight loss
Skin rashes
Arthritis
Lack of concentration
Tiredness

Crohn's is a chronic disease, so this means patients will likely experience periods when the disease flares up and causes symptoms, followed by periods of remission when patients may not notices symptoms at all.

Lou Gehrig's Disease

Hey yall your Homegirl of Health has so hot info that you don't wanna miss. So stop what ever your doing so that you can pay close attention, because this is something that you don't wanna miss. Did you know that June is Lou Gehrig's disease awareness month? Oh you didn't know? Well stick with your Homegirl and I will tell you about this and so much more. Lou Gehrig's disease which is also known as Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS is named after Henry Louis "Lou ' or "Buster" an American baseball player , who played 1st baseman for the New York Yankees. Gehrig's baseball career was cut short because of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). What is Lou Gehrig's you ask? It is a degenerative(causing)disease of the motor neurons , characterized by weakness and atrophy(wasting away)of the muscles of the hands, forearms , and legs, spreading to most of the face and body. This results from the degeneration of the motor neurons of the anterior horns (1 of 2 roots of a spinal nerve )and corticospinal tracts(important motor nerves on each side of the central nervous system). This disease starts in middle age and progresses quickly, causing death within 2 to 5 years. To this day there is still no known treatments

The early symptoms of Lou Gehrig's disease are often subtle. The patient, typically over 40 and male, might take a slight tumble down a flight of stairs. The person this happens to might just think that they are clumsy.

ALS affects individuals of all races. The initial symptoms often vary from one patient to the next
Doctors still have no idea what causes Lou Gehrig's .

Didn't I tell you this was some hot info? Until the next time your Homegirl of Health has some hot health 411. Just remember in order to get healthy "No prescription is needed"

Hey y'all I am Johari"JoJo" your Homegirl of Health. I know many of you are wondering who Homegirl of Health is. Well get comfortable , put your feet up and get ready to find out. I am a Social Work & Nutrition student at the University Of The District Of Columbia, future Nutropathic Physician. I suffer from migraines , bilateral plantar fisacistis , lower back pain , hypertension control ,TMJ and I am a recovering sugar addict. Because of these issues, I have taken more medications than a 35 year old should ever have. One day I woke up just decided I no longer wanted to take all those medications and wanted to stop seeing so many doctors. This was the first day of my new life. This is the day I decided that if I wanted to get healthy and be the best person I could be. I had to take my life into my own hands. From that day forward I have been exercising , I became a vegetarian , I only take 1 medication out of like the 6 or more I previously had to take. I now use home remedies and natural methods. My goal is to bring as many people as I can on this journey to healthiness. "No prescription needed"
